Pebofatso Mokoena | The Pebofatso Experience

6 May – 4 June

Pebofatso Mokoena will present his first solo exhibition at HAZARD Gallery this May, titled The Pebofatso Experience. This exhibition draws from Mokoena’s daily encounters and engagements with the human ecosystem.

Mokoena's exhibition references South Africa’s long history of migrant labour, out-of-body experiences, politics of metaphysical space and motions of the collective consciousness. Mokoena’s work is process driven and is preoccupied with the relationship between form, movement, colour, composition and line as core languages of abstraction.

Taking cues from patterns of natural ecosystems and its compositions, Mokoena draws links between the technical considerations of Renaissance painters and the Formalist era of abstract painting of the 20th century. The result is that through The Pebofasto Experience Mokoena has been able to create and articulate his own vocabulary.
