Duck & Rabbit Projects | The Johannesburg Edition (I)

HAZARD Projects | 27 May - 30 July 2017

HAZARD Gallery is pleased present Arlene Wandera and Richard Zeiss's collective, Duck & Rabbit Projects in the inaugural exhibition at HAZARD

Projects, a small experimentally minded project space located in the same building at HAZARD Gallery.

Having shared a studio space for seven years, Arlene Wandera and Richard Zeiss started collaborating in 2015 under the umbrella of Duck & Rabbit Projects.

The project was initiated as an inquiry into how their vastly different cultural and artistic backgrounds would translate into a show setting; how the viewers would experience the work; whose work would set the tone in which context; and whether the show would be experienced as a sum of its parts, or morph into something new and different altogether.

As a result, Duck & Rabbit materialises in dependence of location and spatial specificities whose aim is to engage the viewer to experience the push and pull the two artistic approaches exert on each other and within a space.

At HAZARD Projects, the duo presents an installation that has a dialogue of the two opposing walls at its core.

The works have been produced in Johannesburg and will be partially finished on-site. Accessible to cues from local materials and aesthetics, they engage with the urban space of production and can be read both in a self-contained fashion and contextualised within the fabric of the city of Johannesburg.
