Josie Borain was officially recognised as the first South African Supermodel after securing a Calvin Klein modelling contract at 21. While living and working in New York Borain completed her studies in directing filmmaking at the New York University Film School in 1988. Her fashion films show Naomi

Borain is a leading photographer with over twenty years of experience taking portraits, self-portraits and shooting reportage. Her work continues to be published worldwide for numerous publications such as Italian Elle and Italian Elle Décor, Interview Magazine and Photo Magazine. She has also shot
magazine editorials of Jared Leto and Taryn Mannin
In 2003 she published Josie, You and Me, an insight into her private and professional life working as a supermodel. The book features intimate snapshot of friends, lovers, colleagues and icons of 1980s New York and Paris captured by her own photography.
Borain presented I am Josie Borain, her first solo exhibition, at Hazard Gallery in 2016. The show featured a mix of bold works that documented her 20-year modelling career and explore mixed-media and colour.
